Michael "Van" Vander Plaats
I’m Michael “Van” Vander Plaats, owner of Van’s Media Company in Lafayette, Indiana. Throughout my half a decade of experience behind a camera, I’ve developed a deep understanding of a high-quality video production. From conducting interviews, to critical post-production, I know what it takes to create a video project that enacts a visceral and emotional response from the viewer, whilst also building a narrative, conveying important information, or telling a story.
While I started scriptwriting, directing my own films, and mastering iMovie as early as I can remember, my true education in video production began in the Radio & TV Center at Jefferson High School. These formative years fostered massive opportunities. In a short time, I’d created promotional content for the Lafayette School Corporation on numerous occasions; as well as the Lafayette Police Department, Lafayette Aviators, and had even shot video on the sidelines of Lucas Oil Stadium.
Today, I use my experience and industry-standard tools to serve my local community—whether it’s documenting a once-in-a-lifetime event, promoting a business, or capturing the beauty in everyday moments. I continue to grow my skills while helping others tell their stories through a compelling lens.
